Ah boy self coins myself ah boy as I'm much younger than many of the finance bloggers out there and as such , don't expect to see ultra chim words in my blog. Just 5 steps to improve your understanding of financial literacy or that's how i did it la , not orthodox at all de: 1) Pick up an annual report (AR) I recall vaguely back in 2009 i first started seeing these thick "books" with lots of pictures and stuff on my then neighbour's doorstep, he was waiting for the karang guni man i assume (then where got pdf one? LOL) , now on hindsight , i think it might be due to the financial crisis then. I remember this one very clearly , i picked ...

National Cashflow Competition 2015 , Anyone?

Image
Hi there! Warning : You might need to spend $ after this post. Most or if not all of my blog readers shouldn't know this , but ah boy has been attending the NCF (National Cashflow Competition) for fun for a few years (other than twice in secondary school cat no choice ma that time , last year was in open)  , though most of the time, it was just a way for me to survey the market and play a game or two for fun :) This year , see my mood la , either Open or Tertiary category. Ah boy doubles as a financial literacy "educator" (though in my own style and flavor la) , so i can peep at my competitors ma , and check out market strength       ;) This time around though , i might have a bit more fun! There's the new game , Asset Finesse used instead of the usual cashflow 101 , ah boy hasn't been to the training session though , but i got a rough idea of how it will be like , just that i'm hoping it can stimulate my mind more as compared to cashflow 101 l...

Stuff I've learnt over the past year , stuff you can learn from or get a refresher .

Image
Ah , b4 i begin to even rant, Happy CNY ! HUAT AH! Moving on liao, this is a self-reflection post (enough of financial posts for now , you have my blog list la , visit one of them :p ) , so for those that can't tahan long granny stories (kidding!) , read on. Those who can't tahan ah boy's style ? Obviously you wouldn't be here if you can't tahan la huh... 1) Be TRUE to others and yourself  This is definitely applicable to all aspects of life. Before starting out on commerce , back in my secondary school days , i used to be a lot more reserved , i don't usually put this out, but i learnt over time that putting out the real you has been very beneficial in terms of boosting a bit of self-confidence and also , it also helps you to allow others to understand you better , because , when you don't speak up , others don't know! Treat others like how you would treat yourself , only then will people begin to open up to you , and you will understand them be...

So every year , my family will have a simple steamboat meal , nothing fancy , nothing to shout about but the amount of quality time spent is impossible to monetize. So ah , ah boy is going to talk about food today , have you ever wondered how many of the companies that produce , retail or distribute foodstuff is listed locally (for this post we look at local la ah, ah boy hungry liao , wanna go eat steamboat soon) ? Ah boy has this weird habit , whenever i see something that piques my interest such as idk....i was doing some cny grocery shopping at **** and ** (same day 2 diff. supermarkets) , then i saw this canned peach can. Being curious i actually went to google and find out if the co. was listed anywhere on any exchanges , so i found out hosen was listed and del-monte was also listed!...

Spare Ribs Noodle with X , My Ta Baos from it.

Image
Hi Peeps   Ken back with my musings of the world , from my perspective of course. So i was having spare rib noodles for lunch with investor Mr X :) and naturally our conversation drifted to investments and what makes a company or rather a counter worth buying into. we both contributed ideas as to what factors we consider when we buy into counters . For X , it is growth potential , high growth potential. The counters better have the possibility to wake up and flip a minimum of 2 times in order to be considered for MR X 's list. Let's begin proper with the lessons i've learnt from mr X then, shall we? 1) Do your own research ,know the figures and how it is calculated. Example 1:  Liquidity ratio calculations   Example 2: Dividend yields need to be reflected in accordance with current trading prices , if not , you'll judge a counter's performance based on past info , for traders and real-time investors , you'll look for ACCURATE ON TIME info...

Entrepreneurship: My thoughts , My lessons

Image
Hi there   Ken is here again to reflect . 2014 has been a mentally exhausting year (oversized teen don't have much physical activity lar) . from starting out to involving myself in two businesses  , starting my own biz, the journey has been tough , but rewarding. This post is meant as an extension of my conversation with a friend of mine (Ryan , this is for you.) , also , it is meant for Branson , and possibly all of you out there who are unsure whether to embark or continue onto the road less trodden. ps. this post shall be more coherent than many of the previous posts due to the use of more "standard" english rather than singlish. However, i'll still try to make it as palatable as possible. So here goes my 6 lessons so far in the journey of entrepreneurship. 1) This is the path less trodden upon . You possibly need to prepare yourself mentally , for the sleepless nights, wondering whether this path is worth it , whether your direction is right. ...
